I am Thankful

As most of you already know I live in Greece. I came to Greece from Australia  when I was 12 years old. In both these countries there is no day for celebrating Thanksgiving. Thanksgiving is a wonderful day and feast celebrated in the United States. A blessed day where family and friends get together and share what they are thankful for, offering prayers of praise and thanksgiving to the Lord. This day makes me think are we just to give thanks one day in a year or every single day of our lives? Should we be thankful only for the good times and blessings or for those dark and hard times that have brought us to our knees and have drawn us closer to Him? Every single day of our life should be a time to reflect and be thankful for all that God has given us good or bad. We should celebrate the greatness of our Lord with gratitude and praise everyday.

So many Bible verses filled with thanksgiving and praise. Just sharing a few with you:

” Therefore, since we receive a kingdom which cannot be shaken, let us show gratitude, by which we may offer to God an acceptable service with reverence and awe; for our God is a consuming fire.”Hebrews 12:28-29
  I will praise the name of God with song, And shall magnify Him with thanksgiving.” Psalm 69:30

 “For everything created by God is good, and nothing is to be rejected, if it is received with gratitude; for it is sanctified by means of the word of God and prayer.”1 Timothy 4:4-5
 in everything give thanks; for this is God’s will for you in Christ Jesus.”1 Thessalonians 5:18

“Do not be anxious about anything, but in everything, by prayer and petition, with thanksgiving, present your requests to God.” Philippians 4:16
“I thank my God every time I remember you. In all my prayers for all of you, I always pray with joy because of your partnership in the gospel from the first day until now, being confident of this, that he who began a good work in you will carry it on to completion until the day of Christ Jesus.
And this is my prayer: that your love may abound more and more in knowledge and depth of insight, so that you may be able to discern what is best and may be pure and blameless for the day of Christ, filled with the fruit of righteousness that comes through Jesus Christ—to the glory and praise of God.” Philippians 1:3-6, 9-11
This is a prayer from the Divine Liturgy in the Orthodox Church which is just beautiful. I am always in tears each time I read it.

It is proper and right
to sing to You,
bless You,
praise You,
thank You
and worship You
in all places of Your dominion;
for You are God ineffable,
beyond comprehension,
invisible,
beyond understanding,
existing forever
and always the same;
You
and Your only begotten Son
and Your Holy Spirit.
You brought us into being out of nothing,
and when we fell, You raised us up again.
You did not cease doing everything
until You led us to heaven
and granted us Your kingdom to come.
For all these things
we thank You
and Your only begotten Son
and Your Holy Spirit;
for all things that we know
and do not know,
for blessings seen
and unseen
that have been bestowed upon us.
We also thank You
for this liturgy
which You are pleased to accept from our hands,
even though You are surrounded
by thousands of Archangels
and tens of thousands of Angels,
by the Cherubim and Seraphim,
six-winged, many-eyed,
soaring with their wings,

Singing the victory hymn,
proclaiming,
crying out,
and saying:

Holy, holy, holy,
Lord Sabaoth,
heaven and earth are filled with Your glory.
Hosanna in the highest.
Blessed is He who comes in the name of the Lord.
Hosanna to God in the highest.
