One huge problem in today’s world is listening. People do not take the time to listen. The same applies for our body. We need to take that time to be still and listen to what it is trying to say to us.
God created everything in us in such a perfect way. It is amazing to see how each organ, cell, etc functions in us.
These past two and a half years I have been trying to listen more and more to what my body needs. I have learned to study myself. There are certain things I can not have and there are things my body craves for. My taste buds have changed. My desire for certain foods such as (chocolate, sugary desserts, chips, etc) has changed. I no longer crave them and if I do eat them I feel sick.
I have the flu. Many tell me to eat certain foods, to take antibiotics, etc. Please do not get me wrong here, if it is necessary to take antibiotics prescribed by your doctor then yes by all means take them. I am fighting this on my own for now, but if I don’t see any improvement than I shall see my doctor.
Since I have been sick, I do not want to drink coffee, I do not want any dairy products apart from yogurt or kefir and I am craving more fruit, veggies herbal tea and water…
You see about a week or so ago, I was consuming a lot of coffee, I also had some diet coke, and some other food that I had cut out of my lifestyle for the past 2 years.
I am not saying that this led to me getting the flu, but what I am learning by listening to my body is that it wants to get rid of that “junk, toxins” that I had fueled it with. It is similar to a car. If you put good quality gas it will run well, if you don’t it will cause problems.
So take some time and start to listen to what your body is trying to say to you.
Today is day 3 of the flu. I am trying to stay as hydrated as possible, drinking plain warm water and also some warm water with ginger, lemon and turmeric. I had a great Cold and Flu fighting smoothie in the morning which I will post the recipe at the end of this post. I had my super bowl soup (check here for recipe) for lunch and not sure what I will have for dinner. It depends how I feel.
Challenge yourself today to take some time and be still. Listen, all you need to do is stay still and listen…

Recipe for Cold and Flu Smoothie
- 1 orange peeled
- 2 mandarins peeled
- 1 banana
- the juice of half a lemon and lime
- a small amount of fresh ginger
- 1 tsp honey ( I used Pine Honey) or any natural sweetener of your choice
- 2 TBS chia soaked in water for 5 minutes
- and some water or plant/nut milk ( I used water)
Toss everything in your blender or food processor. Blend and enjoy!!!
